These should help her swim better, and hopefully increase her confidence so we can get her out of her swim ring.

Durango Hat

This was supposed to be a chemotherapy cap for an adult, but turned out to be child-sized. I could donate it, but my kids love it so much I'll keep it for now. I plan on modifying the pattern to make it adult-sized.

Chemo Cap

I've started making a chemo cap for my daughter's preschool teacher who just had chemotherapy a month or so ago. I'm planning on making several for her as a gift. This one is a turban pattern that I modified to use thicker weight cotton yarn. I haven't gotten very far yet but it's already rewarding and fun to make.

Here's how long it is so far.

It's super stretchy

And it bunches up tight when not stretched. So far, I think my modified pattern is correct. It would be a shame to get to the end and discover I wrote part of the pattern wrong, but I really think I have it right.

This shows the cast on method, using a length of scrap yarn. It will be removed at the end of the project.

My adjusted pattern uses the same cast on technique, but I cast on 33 instead of 50 (because my yarn is twice the weight). Here is my adjusted pattern:
Row 1: K1 tbl, k2, p3, k3 4 times, p3, k2, k1 tbl.
Row 2: K1 tbl, p2, k3, p3 4 times, k3, p2, k1 tbl.
Repeat until your piece is 4" (stretchy to 10") wide by 40" long.
The original pattern can be found here.

Endpaper Mitts, Glove 1 Complete!

I just finished the first glove. Now I have to make an identical one, but I think with the learning curve, the second one is going to be significantly better. I hope it's still similar enough!

I have started the band on the bottom of the second glove, but it will have to wait until tomorrow to be worked on anymore.

If you're on Ravelry, check out my project here.

7/4/08: I have the first glove done to the point where I start increasing for the thumb. Exciting!

7/2/08: I saw this pattern on Ravelry and decided to try my hand at a pair of gloves. I’ve never worked with sock yarn or double pointed needles and never even followed a knitting pattern before. After a bit of a struggle to figure out how to knit with my work on 4 DPNs (specifically, how do you hold it all?!), I did figure it out and the work is now in progress.

I'm using this pattern.

Horned Lizard / Horny Toad

My husband has been complaining that I never crochet him anything, and has been asking for a crocheted horny toad for over a year. I finally caved and made one, if only to prove to him that it was NOT going to look like a horny toad because it would be too fuzzy and cuddly. How would I crochet a zillion spikes?!

Anyway, he loves it and carried it in his pocket all day.

I made a pair of tooth fairy pillows for my friend's twin girls who just started losing their baby teeth.

Tank Top

Here is a knitted tank top I just made for my daughter. I knitted the body in the round, starting at the bottom (cast on 100, then knit 1 row, purl one row, knit, purl, and then the rest was knit), then separated it out when I got to the arm holes, and worked the front on one set of needles and the back on another. Then I attempted to knit a nice neck hole, but I made it too tight and couldn’t get my daughter’s head through it anymore. I ripped that out and crocheted a nice border on the neck and arm holes instead.

This was my first knitted shirt. Ok, it was my second. The first, I made out of the same yarn, but made it too big and screwed up a few times. So I tried again. This one worked great. I made it for my 3 year old daughter. I am happy with it because I made up the pattern myself having no prior experience. I think now I’m ready to try to follow a more complex pattern, maybe something with some fancy stitching!

Chicken Sweater!

My sister is in vet school and way too busy to give me a niece or nephew, so when she got 5 baby chicks, I decided that was good enough! They are growing so fast though, they hardly look like babies anymore! I made a sweater for the chickens to share, and she took pictures for me.

Jayne Hat

For my first knitted project ever, I made up a baby Jayne hat from Firefly.

I made a lot of little mistakes, but especially one big one. I didn't make the hat tall enough, and so I had to add a rim onto the bottom later. So most of the hat is knitted one direction, but the rim goes the opposite direction. Still, I am glad I was able to fix it to the point of wearability.

It still needs earflaps yet, but I still have a few more months until winter.

I listed them on my Etsy shop. Who knows how long they'll be there though. Probably forever!

Giraffe in Progress

My current project is a giraffe for my sister-in-law. I have the body, legs, and head done, and now I need to add spots. I decided not to add them as I went by changing yarn colors, and obviously now I'm done and can't go back and do THAT. I think I will go about it by crocheting little hexagons and sewing them on. Here's the naked spotless giraffe:

Firefly Hats

Upon request by my friend Amanda, I made some hats from the show Firefly.

A Jayne hat, crocheted. It looks too neat and tidy (the original looks like crap and that is most of the charm).

A Jayne hat, knitted on a circular loom. It's a bit tight but I succeeded at getting it to look "messier."

A Browncoat flag hat.

First I made a cowgirl hat for my friend Gretchen. The pattern is from Debbie Stoller's book, The Happy Hooker.

Then Kira asked me to crochet her a pink hat. I resized the pattern myself to make a child-size hat.

Here she is in her Rodeo Day outfit.

My mom got me fluffy yarn for Christmas. I started to make a cat, but halfway through the head, I discovered it was actually a MONSTER.
